The lineup of producers and cast of House of the Dragon reveals the main plot of the HBO series. The prequel series to Game of Thrones will explore the origins of the Targaryen dynasty.
This statement came when the producers and cast of House of the Dragon attended San Diego Comic Con 2022, USA, on Saturday (23/7) local time.
Executive producer Ryan Condal said the series would consist of 10 episodes and tell the story of the civil war between the Targaryen clans.
"[The series] will begin at the absolute pinnacle of the dynasty, the pinnacle of their power, wealth and influence. They have the most dragons than ever," Ryan Condal told fans at Comic Con.
In the show, the actor of King Viserys Targaryen, Paddy Considine, also described the role he played.
"[King Viserys Targaryen] was a man of good temperament, and a kind man, who tried to keep peace in the kingdom," Considine explained.
Meanwhile, the character Daemon Targaryen, who is the younger brother of Viserys, is played by Matt Smith. He admitted that the two brothers had a fairly complicated relationship.
The series also stars Emma D'Archy as Rhaenyra Targaryen, her father's chosen royal successor, and Eve Best as Rhaenys Velaryon.
Eve Best says that Rhaenys should be queen. However, that is not what happened.
"It's kind of annoying that she's not [queen]. It's also kind of annoying that people keep reminding her that she's not [being queen]," Paddy said.
The House of the Dragon series is based on George RR Martin's novel Fire and Blood. As the author of the novel, Martin admits that he has watched nine episodes and thinks this series is amazing.
"These books, these characters, are like my children," George R.R. Martin said.
"When you give your children to people for adoption, you ask how they will be treated, will you recognize them?"
The House of the Dragon series will feature a stellar cast, starting with Milly Alcock as young Rhaenyra, while the adult version will be played by Emmy D'Arcy. Paddy Considine as King Viserys I, Olivia Cook as Alicent Hightower and Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen.
House of the Dragon will also star Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Sonoya Mizuno, Ryan Corr, Jefferson Hall, David Horovitch, Bill Paterson, Matthew Needham, Graham McTavish, and Gavin Spokes.
The House of the Dragon series will premiere on HBO on August 21, 2022.
